The latest free agent to turn out for Pompey in a trial capacity was former Blackburn right back Adam Henley, who featured in the Premier League Cup meeting with Leicester this week.

Kenny Jackett has made it clear he’s looking to strengthen in defence, putting round pegs in round holes for the full back and central defensive areas, which could well give Henley a chance to earn a deal.

He is a right back by trade but capable of playing at left back by all accounts? He is also a Welsh international, capped twice at senior level.

Henley, 23, who had played for Blackburn in the Premier League and Championship during his time at Ewood Park from 2011-2017, is most definitely worth a look. Is the fact he remains a free agent at this stage – being released in the summer – a little concerning though?

Pompey have absolutely nothing to lose by giving him a trial, Jackett personally watched on when the Blues faced Leicester so we’ll see what happens, but he is arguably the most encouraging free agent the boss has yet looked at…
