Kenny Jackett, true to his word, has moved quickly to secure the loan signings of Wolves duo Connor Ronan and Sylvain Deslandes this January.

However, Curtis Main has left Pompey for Motherwell.

Focusing first on the departure, Main has ended his, ultimately disappointing spell at Fratton Park by signing an 18 month deal with the Scottish club after an agreement was reached for his release.

Main, 25, made 23 appearances for Pompey since his arrival in 2016, scoring six goals, including one this season with his last outing coming as a substitute in the defeat at Bristol Rovers on New Years Day.

Best of luck to him but, with all due respect, I am not entirely sure we’ll actually miss him too much.

As for the incoming players, Ronan is a midfielder and Deslandes a defender who can act as a full back or central defence. Both are well known to Jackett when he managed them during his spell on charge at Molineux – so we have to back his judgement, right?

He told portsmouthfc.co.uk: ‘We’re short on natural players at the back currently, so Sylvain can hopefully help us continue our excellent defensive record this season. Connor’s strength is his creativity, while he also has pace and vision on the ball. He’s someone I rate very highly and has a bright future in the game.’

Adding: ‘I worked with both of them during my time Wolves and am pleased to link up with them once again. We’ve given them an excellent opportunity to play for Pompey and help us progress during the second half of the campaign.’

I have heard of both players but Ronan, 19, is the one seemingly closer to the Championship leaders’ first team plans this season, making seven appearances this term. Looking at social media he appears very highly rated among the Wolves fans, which has to be a positive for us and can hopefully plug the gap left by Danny Rose.

Deslandes, 20, has previous at this level after a loan with Bury; he’s managed eight first team appearances for Wolves in total, bringing cover across the backline.
