Vital Pompey Towers is looking for its fellowship to share some views with us ahead of the new season. BarneyArmy is next to step up.

With the new season almost here it would be nice to get a few last minute answers to a few questions.

Next up is BarneyArmy

1 – Are you looking forward to the season? (Expand on more than just ‘yes or no’ please!)
Yes, starting to get excited after a good couple of years of apathy toward Football as a whole – I really do think that the game has lost its grass roots appeal and looking forward to Pompey starting at the bottom and hopefully working their way back up again. This is the league that I first started watching Pompey, and loved it back then and starting to get that feeling back again………just let’s do it the right way this time!

2 – What are your hopes/expectations for it?
I would like to see a steady start with no false expectations, I would be happy with mid table and upwards – and it would be great to push for the play offs ! That said, if we romped it, I wouldn’t be disappointed either – I just don’t expect that to happen – there are some canny footy clubs in this division.

3 – Which summer signing are you most excited about?
If we hold onto Wallace then that is a great coup, also happy to see RJR coming back 🙂

4 – Players we have lost we have lost for a reason but which one, if any; that has gone do you feel we will most miss?
I would have been a lot happier had we kept hold of Eastwood in goal – thought his link up with Knightsie saw him shine – strange decision to warm the bench instead – but family reasons!

5 – Your tip for the player of the season?
Ertl to continue to impress.

6 – Do you plan many, if any, Fratton visits this season?
With a season ticket back in my mitts, I would expect to make most – unless work gets in the way! However, my favourite games are always the first and last home game of the season – and this season will miss both !!! Gutted.

7 – Which club, if any, are you most looking forward to coming to Fratton?
Plymouth – nice to renew some old dockyard competitiveness.

8 – An away day? Is there a club you are most looking forward to us going to?
Any of the SW visits : Plymouth, Torquay, Exeter – could be a weekend or two.

9 – If you would like to add anything else please do below…
As a previous doom sayer of what has gone on over the last few years, I am starting to feel a little more optimistic! I have held a Season ticket since the mid eighties and only stopped in the previous two seasons due to apathy/not knowing where my money was going etc. although I kept going when I was available! My personal thoughts were that we should be liquidated and start again (phoenix club) and was sceptical of what the Trust could achieve. That said, I have to give them due credit – the work they have done so far has been done well…..I guess they are still learning and hope they go from strength to strength, it really is early days yet. They will make mistakes, people will let them down, but we should stay strong and keep the support going.

Play up Pompey.

Thanks to BarneyArmy, hopefully others will follow suit and fire the answers through to us at VP Towers via email to the address below.
