There was much speculation about what would happen, what the final outcome could bring and how happy – or disappointed – this was going to leave us.

A couple of days ago the waiting ended and the new Pompey club crest was released.

If you haven’t seen it I’d be amazed, but should that prove to be the case you can look at the designs in the forum as eastneydave posted a couple of images up for us – click here.

Supporter groups, the Pompey History Society and fan surveys gained input as to what fans thought with the eventual designs gaining the approval at February’s Heritage and Advisory Board meeting.

Chief exec Mark Catlin told portsmouthfc.co.uk: ‘I am really pleased with the final outcome. This is another key building block in place to commercially protect the club going forward. We put various ideas and options out for consultation, taking on board fans’ views before arriving at the final design. The feedback supporters gave us played a huge part in refining the designs and I’d like to thank fans for the constructive way they engaged in the process.’

After all the months there’s actually little change to the crest we already had. A slight amendment with the 1898 formation date added below the star and crescent for the shirt crest.

The second, used for ‘merchandising and commercial opportunities’, has Portsmouth Football Club around it. I actually prefer that one so it’s a bit of a shame this isn’t going to be on the shirts – then again merchandise should look good emblazoned with this.

Well, all things considered, compared to how it could have gone, I’m pretty happy, are you?
