So, what does Tuesday 16th June bring us ‘Pompey reports’ wise eh?

Well our ‘friends’ from The Sun ‘claim’, despite ‘claiming’ that it was Chelski a mere 24-hours earlier, that Liverpool ‘have won the race to land Portsmouth’s £19million full-back Glen Johnson’ and ‘the England defender is expected to have a medical on Merseyside tomorrow – unless Chelsea or Manchester City can gazump the Kop at the last minute.’

‘Gazump’ – now, I like that word…

Ok, lets be honest the chances are almost 100% nailed on that Johnson will go but how can he have a ‘medical on Merseyside tomorrow’ if he is on holiday? Which I believe he is for the next couple of weeks… This must be just like ‘the guided tour of Anfield’ that he took in January, funnily enough I believe also ‘reported’ by The Sun!

The aptly named ‘Martin Blackburn’, of course also from The Sun, ‘claims’ that ‘Blackburn aim to make the most of the Portsmouth chaos by slapping in a bid for Peter Crouch.’

‘Chaos’, ah well I guess it is a different selection of words than ‘limbo’…

Ok, maybe Crouch will also go the same way as his teammate but Blackburn, despite Fat Sam’s liking of the England man, just do not have the finances to fund a move – this is a commonly known ‘fact’…

And, the early morning ‘rumours’ end with The Mirror saying ‘Tyrone Mears is being lined up as a replacement for Glen Johnson at Fratton Park.’

‘Replace’, ‘Tyrone Mears’ and ‘Glen Johnson’ do not belong on the same page, let alone paragraph or even sentence…

But, lets carry on…on the face of it you think ok Tyrone Mears, he spent last season on loan with Marseille so he cannot be all bad? The thing is he barely played for them but suddenly feels he has become a ‘world beater’, visions of an England call-up, regular champions league – at least uefa cup football – with Marseille or one of the top clubs in Europe or 5 or 6 clubs in England were the claims…

With respect to all that will be mentioned, he returned to Derby – who he had left on loan after an apparent trial with Marseille without permission on the ‘recommendation’ of Kevin Keegan I seem to recall – and has no one interest in him and now plays international football with Jamaica… Arguably another ‘flimsy’ paper claim at best, but Martin Cranie, Marc Wilson or even Younes Kaboul are much better right back options and that would be the way to go for me.

So, it is ‘The Sun 2 The Mirror 1’ today, The Mirror still has more credit than The Sun though, but that is of course a given…
