Pitman on the sidelines

Brett Pitman has added to the Pompey injury problems as he faces up to a month on the sidelines following a knee injury.

Pitman had been carrying a knee problem for a while – along with his broken nose – and a double surgery has taken place to rectify both issues. Floating tissue was removed via a keyhole procedure with the forward also having an operation on his nose.

He was always going to miss the Checkatrade Trophy win on Tuesday but it was hoped he could return to face Gillingham on Sunday. Well, that changed when he had an op on his knee too.

The Blues’ top goalscoring inspirational captain – he’s got nine so far in League One – will be a huge miss but what can you do? Now it is time for others to step up or it could be a long few weeks ahead…

Meanwhile, Damien McCrory will definitely remain at Fratton Park for the remainder of his loan.

McCrory, 27, wasn’t expected to be out for too long when he initially picked up a knee injury against Fleetwood. However, he too has undergone knee surgery and will sit out the whole of October.

Kenny Jackett is confident we’ll see the on-loan Burton full back again and has no plans to cut short his spell, which is scheduled to run until January when an extension until the end of the season could be considered.

‘I think Damien will stay here because he’s contracted to us until January. Besides, basically he will be out for October but still has November and December. He should be okay,’ Jackett told the News.

Adding: ‘He went for a scan and saw a specialist and the assessment was he had some cartilage damage and they needed to go in and tidy up. There have been quite a few operations and they have mainly come across the back line. It is what it is, the squad and the club have to adjust and adapt.’
