The news that Marlon Pack has signed a permanent deal at Cheltenham Town where he has been on loan all season will surprise no-one.

One of the many promising Pompey youngster released by boss Steve Cotterill it is good to see Pack snapped up so quickly. Pompey born Marlon made just one first team appearance for his home town club in the Carling Cup against Crystal Palace on 24 August 2010 as an extra time substitute, scoring in the subsequent penalty shoot out which Pompey won.

I know all Pompey fans will wish him well and hope that this decision to release young players will not backfire on the club in the years to come.

Arrivals?

Meanwhile it appears Pompey are attempting to make three of last season loan players offers for the new season although as yet no details have emerged as to whether they will sign permanently or not.

The three involved are Richie De Laet, Greg Halford and Jonathan Hogg although there is some way to go before the deals can be struck. De Laet is being eyed by Norwich and Halford too has his suitors after the fine job he did when converted by boss Cotterill to a centre back, a position he has not occupied before.

Back room staff I know were very impressed with Halford and the maturity he has shown in settling into a strange position without complaining. He has stated his desire to come to Fratton Park.

De Laet has one season to run on his current Manchester United contract while Hogg has just signed a two year deal at Villa Park.

The deal to bring Ipswich out of contract midfield man David Norris to the South Coast appears to have been sealed but cannot be announced until after takeover talks are concluded. Norris was seen at the Eastleigh training ground in the closing weeks of the season and it is possible he agreed some king of deal then.
