A look through my records shows two other notable events in Pompey history one of which was a very sad day. That came in 2008 when exactly one week after Sol Campbell lifted the FA Cup at Wembley Pompey’s Championship captain Reg Flewin passed away at the age of 87. Reg had a least had the pleasure of watching the Final on television at his Isle of Wight nursing home.

The other far happier event happened when back in 1931 in Geneva Jimmy Easson became the first Pompey player to score an international goal. Jimmy netted opening goal in a 3-2 victory over their hosts Switzerland, it was his only goal in three games for his country.

Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day…
