A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of PompeyRama.

No Pompey games have previously played on this day.

Due to this lack of games, well, none of them it will be straight onto the other feature – again courtesy of PompeyRama – looking at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

8/6/1919: Gerry Bowler

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Gerry Bowler – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Well before my time, in fact, I suspect Bowler was before the time of anyone reading? In all honesty, I cannot claim to know anything about him either, be that from his time at Fratton Park or otherwise.

What are your memories of Bowler – as said, I would imagine he was too early for anyone mind? – from his Pompey days?
