Sulley Muntari has answered the calls that have been doing the rounds that he wants to leave Pompey by insisting in The News that he is happy where he is: ‘I’m happy here and enjoying my football.
‘I’m happy with the performances from me and the team. I don’t care if people don’t recognise me. If they recognise Pompey that’s great’.
Every player does have a price and if the right price was offered for Muntari he would be sold, but this is not going to happen in the immediate future, as this future is most certainly with us and the ‘quotes’ previously attributed to him – saying he wanted to play for a top 4 side – were from him, but from sometime again, they have just been rehashed and doctored to suit the papers needs with the ‘reported’ interest from Liverpool.
Muntari remains fully committed to Pompey and is not ‘using’ us and insists that we are in great shape to push on from our fantastic start for a European place at the end of the season: ‘we’re aiming for Europe because we have good players and a good manager.
‘We have a way to go but we have the players, the ability – everything you need to be there.
‘We have a lot of work to do still but we are planning to be in the top positions. If we keep playing and training well I seriously believe we can do it’.
As said the papers manipulate quotes and use them as they see fit, the vast majority of us spotted right away that his suggestion that he wanted to leave had only been a – not so – ‘cleverly’ doctored approach from the media using old quotes and working them as they saw fit…
Muntari has always been open and honest with his ambitions to play for the very best, which is understandable and fair enough, but he recognises the potential that we have so as long as we keep reaching and bettering this we will be able to keep him and all our other quality players.
