Mensah longing to play in England

Apparent Pompey target John Mensah has spelt out his desire to play in England – and possibly with Pompey?

The Ghanaian international has been heavily ‘linked’ with Pompey for a good number of days now, and with Sol Campbell ‘rumoured’ to be leaving Pompey in the summer he could be viewed as an ideal replacement for our captain should he leave, and Mensah has told The Sun today a move to England, to rejoin his former Rennes teammate John Utaka at Pompey is something that he would like: ‘I would be happy to join him. I think it is a good place for an African player.

‘In the past Reading spoke about me and I know they are still interested. But with Portsmouth joining the picture it has made it even more interesting’.

He also claims interest from other premier league clubs besides Reading and Pompey, with Pompey said to be ‘not the only top English club keen on him’ – is it not great to see players referring to us as ‘a top English club!’

Mensah is generally regarded as one of the best African defenders around and is said to have been recommended to Harry Redknapp sometime last year by Utaka. With him also being an international teammate of Sulley Muntari there would be no shortage of ties making him want to come here.

Who knows what the summer will hold, we will be linked with name after name in the coming months, but would I be unhappy to see Mensah sign? From what I do know of him and what I have seen then I would have to say I would not be against this at all to be honest.
