The semi final this weekend is a game that everyone wants to be involved in and Dave Nugent is no exception. He has told The News how desperate he is to be given the chance as he looks to start repaying the faith shown in him by most fans after the large amount of money paid for him: ‘Pompey have paid a lot of money for me and it’s time I started showing I’m worth it.

‘My match fitness is coming back and I think you will now see the real David Nugent. It’s time to show the fans what I can do.

‘The supporters have been brilliant but I feel like I haven’t given them enough yet. Now I’m injury free it’s about showing them what I can do.

‘I want to prove I’m good enough for the Premier League. I want to show how good I am.

‘I don’t feel I’ve given enough to this football club yet so this is my time to show what I can do.

‘I’ve got the buzz again and it’s going to be nice to be involved on Saturday. We’ve got a great chance of winning and hopefully I can help’.

He also once again spoke about his desire to stay with Pompey and said he was not interested in any of the loan moves proposed to him recently, and despite saying he would think about them he never once seriously thought about moving on.

I thought that Nugent looked fitter, sharper and most importantly quicker during his brief cameo appearance at the weekend, as said at the time to see him take on and outpace the Wigan defenders several times was a joy to behold, and although it was only 25 minutes or so it offered plenty of promising signs.

I do not think that there is much chance of Nugent not being a part of the final 16 on Saturday but you cannot look past Kanu starting in a 4-5-1 formation can you? To be honest I would rather see a 4-4-2, but even if we do get this it would probably be Kanu and Milan Baros.

At the end of the day though winning it the priority, no matter how it comes or who plays!
