We get to know a little more about NinjaTim.

1 – Vital Pompey username?
NinjaTim.

2 – Where do you come from/where do you currently live?
Farnham, Surrey

3 – How long have you been a Vital Pompey member?
Since October 2007.

4 – What do you think of Vital Pompey? Be brutally honest!
Superb – so many fan sites are full of abuse and cretinous comment. You guys, as well as displaying a passion for Pompey, seem to know your football and will at least listen to other people’s opinions.

5 – How did you find out about Vital Pompey?
Google.

6 – When did you first watch Pompey live – not on box unless this is the only way you have been able to see them? Not necessarily at Fortress Fratton though.
29/10/07 v Reading!

I’d been a Gooner since 1971 (but always had a soft spot for Pompey from days of watching Southern Soccer when, living in Sussex, it would be on instead of The Big Match). Used to get to Highbury from time to time through the “boring, boring Arsenal years” but have a cat in Hell’s chance of watching them live now – try getting a ticket for the Emirates without paying a shed load of dosh just to go on the lowest level of membership (and still having no chance of a ticket).

A mate of mine convinced me to take in a game at Fratton Park – devoid of corporate phoney fans and simply rocking to the passion of the beautiful game…..little did we know that we’d be at such an historic game. Suffice to say, at the age of 46, I’ve been converted. My nine year old daughter loves the idea of supporting Pompey instead of Chelsea (like all the other kids at her school)…she’s nuts about Benji and even she can tell McClown why Jamo should be England’s keeper.

7 – How often do you get to watch Pompey?
Hoping to get to a game at least once a month, work and other half permitting.

8 – Who is your favourite Pompey Player – current and/or former?
Current is a toss-up between Benji and Sol. Former would be Paul Merson or Mark Hateley.

9 – What is you favourite Pompey moment?
Benji’s second goal against Reading and singing “We want eight!” v Reading.

10 – What are your realistic hopes for Pompey in the future?
I’d have money on Pompey winning one of the domestic cups this season. Top 10 in the league is realistic, indeed, anything less would be disappointing, but ambition should certainly be for top 6 with this squad.

By the way, anyone who’s not read it should get a copy of ‘The Football Man’ by Arthur Hopcraft, written in 1968. Widely acclaimed as the best ever book on football. Try eBay.

  • given the choice between chel$ki and portsmouth, i know who i would choose…wait, i already made that choice :-). its great to see that our attractive brand of football and stte of the art stadium can lure even the mighty arsnals fans away from them!!! but boy, do i wish i would have been at that reading game!

  • Welcome Tim. Yes you are right we will listen to all points of view and argue them on football grounds not just a few expletives.

  • just a load of punch boys in this site!! :):)……just kiddin boys! I bloody love this site…that Rug blokes a bit outspoken though! 🙂

  • i think tim teaches tae kwon-do, so i would guess that is why the ninja bit – i had wondered before tho…

  • CharlieChimes, im looking at you mate – i think you will be the next victim of knowing me, knowing you, as i think from the fellas that have so far commented on this article they have all done a kmky form, your next 🙂 so look out for an email from me… you will be added soon gleamer, patience my pet! 7-4, what a great first game – i thought it was my influence being at the game, but it must have been yours mate…

  • OK guys, in answer to the Ninja question. I am a tae kwon-do student (1st degree black belt) and also teach tae kwon-do at a club in Farnham. Lysimachus aka Bob – my fellow Ninja; which art do you train in and where do you train – are you tkd too?

Also, when I wrote the KMKY piece we were still in the Carling Cup so I may have to review my tip that we’d win one of the cups (still can see us winning the FA cup though).

  • there you have it – straight from the horses mouth, so to speak, no offence meant tim… the fa cup is always special isnt it so we will be up for every game we play, we probably werent the league cup ties, certainly not the last one – so i will also put money on us to win the fa cup too.

  • It ain’t easy Rabbi and I’ve gone through a tortuous process justifying it! That said, I’ll always have a love for Arsenal but Pompey are my local side and I was also born in Haslemere which is closer to Pompey than any other league side. Furthermore, I want to get back to watching live football and, frankly, can’t stomach the corporate culture and alienation of the fans at so called bigger clubs – Arsenal included. I must be one of the few who’s jumped OFF a bandwagon…nowadays people stop suporting their local team and say they “support” Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelski but never actually see them live.

  • Good for you Tim. Who the hell cares at what age you see the light, so long as finally see that it shines from the south ! I know Farnham pretty well. Good town. I grew up between there and Guildford.
