Contract extension close to being signed?
Despite plenty of rumoured interest in Glen Johnson, contrary to what reports might suggest, it is ‘said’ that he does want to stay at Fratton – unlike some others…

‘Reports’ on Sunday – well in some papers, others still said he was on the move! – said that he was at an ‘advanced stage’ to extend his contract until 2013, even this current deal does not expire until 2011 anyway.

Get the deal sorted, show a statement of intent – and this also shows a statement of intent from him that others might look to follow. He is someone we really, really need to keep here for a while longer.

I also say start dishing out new deals to those that will get them and also deserve to get them. Some are playing their hearts out, so give them the reward – I am talking about Sean Davis and Richard Hughes, the rest, as far as I am concerned anyway, can stay out of contract and walk away when the summer comes…

Adams hold Defoe hope, but he will be off today…
As the weekend wore on Tony Adams appeared to be backing down in his thoughts that he wanted Jermain Defoe to go as things looked to be turning especially nasty with reports of death threats?

I do not know, for me this again seems a little ‘convenient’ and ‘easy’. If true of course I do not condone this at all, and those issuing such things are not Pompey fans are they. Yep, people might be angry and say spiteful, maybe even hurtful things about him but most ‘normal’ people would do this only between themselves!

Anyway, Adams revealed that he would talk to Defoe today and was not giving up on him ‘changing his mind’ about wanting to leave: ‘Jermain is still a Portsmouth player and maybe I’ll make a point of talking to him on Monday when he returns to training because people often change their minds, don’t they.

‘It happened here with Joe Jordan after Harry left. All the time Joe was going to stay. Then suddenly he went to Spurs, bless him.

‘I’m not going to confirm any bids through the press. All I’m saying is I’m hopeful Jermain will be available for next week’s game here against Manchester City and then we’ll see about the replay at Bristol.’

All this seems irrelevant according to the early ‘reports’ today as Defoe is set to complete a near £15m return to Spurs this morning.

£14.5m in fact is what is being reported and any debts to Spurs are written off – these debts now only mention money for Younes Kaboul, so finally I think it might have sunk in that the £5m we ‘sold’ Harry Redknapp for, as he put it, was actually used against money owed for the England striker…

Lets just get this situation sorted once and for all now – ideally he would not be able to face us, but he will and chances are he will score! If he is going move him on quickly, we cannot say quietly now as the damage is done. If he is going to change his mind, which is unlikely, almost impossible now, lets hear it and not at the tail end of the window when he would have ‘no other’ option!
