With all the activity, talk and the ‘will they will they not transfer dealings’ involving Jermaine Defoe arriving and Benjani going go through – which as we now know involved him signing and him staying – the announcement of Fabio Capello’s 1st England squad for the friendly with Switzerland next week was overlooked slightly, but this contained 2 Pompey players.

This 30 man squad – which will be cut to 23 tomorrow – includes both David James and Glen Johnson, and both will be hoping that they avoid the cut… well James is a nailed on certainty to remain as only 3 keepers have been named, and he has to beat Scott Carson and the recalled Chris Kirkland to regain the no.1 spot.

David Beckham has been left out but former Pompey target Curtis Davies – now at Villa – has got the nod, along with his Villa teammate Gabriel Agbonlahor. This is the 30 man squad in full:

David James, Scott Carson, Chris Kirkland

Wayne Bridge, Ashley Cole, Curtis Davies, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, Nicky Shorey, Wes Brown, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, Matthew Upson, Jonathan Woodgate

Michael Carrick, Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard, Jermaine Jenas, Owen Hargreaves, Joe Cole, Ashley Young, Stewart Downing, Shaun Wright-Phillips, David Bentley

Gabriel Agbonlahor, Peter Crouch, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Emile Heskey.
