The proposed transfer of Benjani to Man City has not gone through after all according to the Man City Site!

A City spokesman – Paul Tyrrell – said: ‘due to the late arrival of the player in Manchester we were unable to complete the transfer’.

So not only did we sign Jermaine Defoe we also kept Benjani.

This could not have been some ploy to keep Benjani and get Defoe as well – surely not? – as Harry Redknapp had been speaking to sky sports news shortly after the Defoe deal was confirmed, and he said: ‘It’s a good move [for Benjani] and we’ve more than doubled our money.

‘It’s great business’.

Someone has made a balls up somewhere, but this has worked in our favour, although it will be interesting to see what sort of reaction we get from Benjani as it will not be easy coming back to Pompey and having to look Redknapp in the eye knowing that he was happy to sell him…

What price Benjani starting up front alongside Defoe this weekend though fellas…
