Having enjoyed – if that is the right choice of words – a free weekend, due to the Bradford postponement, we return to Fratton Park on Saturday for the visit of Gillingham.

Last time round, at Fratton, Pompey were poor, in a generally disappointing game all-round, against Blackpool as the Tangerines left with all three points when the Blues showed arguably our poorest performance of the season.

If the showing is as poor as the one against Blackpool there’s likely to be a reaction from the Fratton crowd, certainly sections of it, as they make it clear it isn’t good enough. However, as far as I’m concerned, as long as the players give their all I’ll be happy, whatever the outcome.

As a general rule, which isn’t necessarily a given, a positive result at home would be anticipated, but certainly not expected – I think we know the pitfalls of this a good few times this season.

Gillingham, literally just behind Pompey in League 1, come to the South Coast with an eye on a late surge into the top-six. We’ll have to be much better at the weekend if we’re to get a positive result, which all being well the Blues can achieve as I make my own return to Fratton, having been unable to attend for a good few games.

A point, three or nothing? What do we think?
