Stuart O’Keefe isn’t a player we’ve seen as much as we would have wanted from his loan spell, but the majority still feel he’s one Kenny Jackett should look to keep at Pompey.

The on-loan Cardiff midfielder was the subject of a recent poll. Admittedly it wasn’t a landslide; still there was a majority in favour of O’Keefe extending his stay on the South Coast into next season, be that permanently or an extended loan.

What the poll asked – Should we keep O’Keefe?

How you voted – Yes, permanently or on loan again 57%
No, not what we need 31%
Still unsure at the mo 12%

Yep, I’d agree with this and if we can keep him I’ll be happy enough as he has the ability and experience to be a valuable member of the Pompey squad, which would benefit us in League 1, potential the next level, should we make it into the Championship in the coming years.

O’Keefe himself was hoping to return to the fold by the end of the month, Jackett isn’t so sure though and feels his return from injury – this has sidelined him since December – in April is more likely.

His combative nature, along with the aforementioned ability and experience, has been missed so a return to end this season will benefit us, we’ll find out soon enough if this continued in 2018-19…

Another who could well play out this season – at least – at Fratton Park is Paul Paton.

Paton, 30, has been training with Pompey recently as we access the free agent, who was released by former club St Johnstone ahead of the January transfer window closing.

The Northern Ireland international has been described as ‘a holding, tackling central midfielder rather than a creative and attacking one’ is seen as ‘one of the better free agents kicking about’ at the moment.
