Lets face it, when you are honest about it, few have actually ‘really’ believed that Dave Nugent would sign a new contract with Pompey right?
I have long since accepted that the one time England international would leave Fratton, and whilst it has its drawbacks I have also expressed the thoughts that it is by far ‘the end of the world’ if/when he does!
A contract has been on the table for him for more than long enough now so lets just cut the bull now eh Dave and admit that you are moving on…
Offers will be made for him although I suspect that these are not ‘quite’ as appealing as he might have been thinking, or hoping, they would be?
Burnley and Blackpool are options that I suspect he would have been more than interested in exploring but with Burnley failing to secure promotion and Blackpool failing to retain their place in the premier league bar their geographical location, for what he would prefer, do they actually offer that much to him anymore, if either would in fact be interested now…
Ipswich are ‘strongly’ being ‘linked’ with him over and over but will they actually offer him the financial incentive that he would be looking for to move on, so that leaves the only, from the looks of it, premier league option open to him being Bolton. Again this is an ideal geographical location for him but would he actually get paid that much more than we would give him and how much would he even play?
Even on reduced wages I really do not think that many other clubs will offer him anymore than we will, or much more anyway. That old saying of ‘the grass is not always greener’ is something he could well follow here.
Steve Cotterill has all but accepted that Nugent will move on, and is basically expecting this..
In many ways I can understand that Nugent wants to ‘keep his options open’ but the guy himself said he wanted his future sorted out by the end of the month, so here we are its now down to you Dave!
