Champions Review: Honourable Mentions

Finishing top of the league, here’s a run down on the men who got us there: The likes of Jack Whatmough, Curtis Main, Milan Lalkovic, Noel Hunt etc.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Jack Whatmough (Played 10 (6 as Sub) Scored 1): Great to have Jack back after a succession of nasty injuries. When called upon he has been a beast and as one of our own I hope he continues to get opportunities at Fratton Park.

Curtis Main (Played 12 (8 as Sub) Scored 2): Looked like a predator in front of goal when he got his double against Crawley, but failed to follow it up. A nasty head wound against Wycombe wasn’t enough to stop him, but a long term injury in November ruled him out for 5 months. At 24, there’s still plenty for him to prove in League One.

Milan Lalkovic (Played 13 (8 as Sub) Scored 1): A summer signing who showed plenty of promise for Pompey, but found himself on the bench nonetheless. He looked lively when called upon and eyebrows were raised when he was shipped out on loan to Ross County. I’d like to see him get more game time on his return.

Noel Hunt (Played 20 (16 as Sub) Scored 1): The 34 year old former Ireland international arrived with much excitement, but was mainly resigned to substitute appearances. He looked eager when called upon, but on the rare game he started couldn’t get to grips with Cook’s formation. A nasty looking injury against Hartlepool may be the last we see of him.

Stanley Aborah (Played 4 (3 as Sub) Scored 0): The most efficient player in Pompey history. Within 1 minute of coming off the bench for his debut Pompey had won promotion! Has looked decent in his subsequent starts and is already a fan favourite.

Drew Talbot (Played 5 (0 as Sub) Scored 0): Signed as a replacement for Ben Davies but failed to impress.

Nicke Kabamba (Played 4 (3 as Sub) Scored 0): Only made a handful of appearances, but looks like a danger man and could be a pivotal part of the club over the coming years.

Adam Barton (Played 3 (1 as Sub) Scored 0): Just a few appearances before moving to Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle on deadline day in August.
