Benji has to keep scoring to stay in

Benjani has basically been given a ‘keep scoring or you are out’ ultimatum by Harry Redknapp after what he told The News: ‘he’s always done well, held the ball, worked and ran the channels.

‘I can’t honestly say I thought he’d be where he is now, though.

‘He and Kanu have been vying for that spot up front.

‘So he has to keep scoring goals to keep him out, because Kanu’s a fantastic player’.

We all know that Redknapp is a big fan of Kanu’s and I mean a big fan, he literally loves the fella – and admits as much himself – so at the first opportunity he can I have no doubt he will have Kanu back in… so it is down to Benjani to keep him out.

I like Kanu do not get me wrong, I just feel he is lazy – but we knew this when we signed him, but you cannot doubt his genius. But personally I do not think that he offers us much more, if anything more at all than Benjani does, in fact to be honest I think we lose something if Kanu gets the nod, particularly with the ‘lone striker’ system we are playing.

I have said it before, but will say it again Benjani would be one half of any strike pairing Pompey play for me, but if we are only going to play the one then I am sorry Kanu, but this would be Benjani almost everyday of the week for me as I maintain the thoughts that I have always had, Kanu could make a huge impact from the bench?

Such has been Benjani’s rise this season some paper gossip has linked him with a £7m move to Juventus in January – just another of the many things – even in rumour format – that you did not think you would see with Pompey in the same caption just a few months back isn’t it.
