Attention now focused on Tottenham goalkeeper

Pompey have and then haven’t been signing Brighton’s Christian Walton – a scenario that has seen the dial swing back and forth as a likely scenario.

Tottenham’s Luke McGee has also been mentioned as an option.

Now, having become ‘frustrated’ in the attempts to bring Walton in on loan the News – admittedly NOT the original source as I’ve seen others reporting it before – claims a decision has been made.

Kenny Jackett has decided on McGee and ‘Pompey are closing in’ on the Tottenham goalkeeper, who spent last season with Peterborough, making 45 appearances. As the Spurs keeper, 21, is available on a permanent deal he’s become the ‘more attractive proposition’ to Walton.

Another summer where Pompey have been looking for a keeper – this shouldn’t be a constant position of concern – had also seen former academy shot-stopper Harry Isted train with the Blues.

However, a deal for Isted hasn’t been offered.

Released by Stoke after they decided he didn’t have a future in the Premier League, having joined them from Southampton after previously leaving Fratton Park for the lot up the road, Isted is now trying his luck at Luton.

Again, not the first place this was reported, but the News said Chichester-born Isted, 20, has now linked up with Luton after Jackett opted against offering a deal after being impressed by Alex Bass.

Walton is a name I knew and fancied having at Fratton but McGee spent a season gaining League One experience at Peterborough, impressing by all accounts during the campaign-long loan.

Posh wanted McGee back but Pompey are going to do a deal with Tottenham – Jackett should be familiar with the keeper from his time at Spurs so I’ll trust that judgement.
