A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama.

No Pompey games have previously played on this day.

Due to this lack of games, well, none of them it will be straight onto the other feature – again courtesy of PompeyRama – looking at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

11/7/1974: Hermann Hreidarsson

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Hermann Hreidarsson – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Remember Hreidarsson very well and fondly.

The term ‘legend’ is used too freely these days isn’t it but would it be untrue to say Hreidarsson is a legend? As a footballer he wasn’t outstanding but he always gave his all and wasn’t bad was he.

However, I think Hermann gains his legendary status through from his never say die, fully committed and incredible attitude on and off the field – top, top man and I enjoyed having the Herminator at Fratton Park during his time with Pompey.

In fact I always enjoy seeing his returns to Fratton, he clearly loves that attention too doesn’t he!

What are your memories of Hreidarsson from his Pompey days?
