What does the future hold for…Brown?

There can be few clubs with such a history of squad rotation as Pompey.

This summer, as with the past 2-3, I would suspect that ‘most’ will be wondering where their future lies.

Although unlike some other years some players under contract at least ‘should’ have a better chance of remaining where they are, as long as this is what they want!

If this is what they want, and it is a financially viable option for us, lets hope this is what they get…

Mikey Brown

Another that was ludicrously given an incredible contract when we were in the brown stuff, and a contract that also contained a clause that would extend his contract further after so many games.

A ‘complex situation’ would apparently have seen whatever deal was agreed to extend his contract kick in instantly so this would have started in January and he would not have seen out this season on his current salary.

So, in some ways I can see why this was rejected as it would have overridden his existing deal. Even so, despite understanding him not wanting to cut his salary until the end of the season, it makes my blood boil that he would have sooner seen out his current deal NOT playing than agreed some form of compromise on the clause and then leave on a free at the end of the season?

How hard could, or would, it have been to say lets just keep things as they are until the summer and then talk again?

‘Word on the street’ has it that Brown and Steve Cotterill had a major run-in on the training ground earlier in the season, if this has played any part in developments or not I would not know?

I did not have Browny pegged as a mercenary who would sooner be paid in full to do nothing but it seems that he is and Pompey has proven his retirement fund as I cannot see anyone picking up an aging midfielder, even though ‘rumours’ say that they will, who has not played in 6-months and ‘seems’ to have demonstrated that money it his motivator.

Whatever though we safely know that his future lies away from Fratton…
