What is Milan Baros’ future with Pompey?

Depending on where you read it some believe that Harry Redknapp is ‘hinting at him staying’, whereas others are merely saying that ‘he will be getting another chance this weekend’, which more than seems the case with what he told The News: ‘I like Milan. We’ll just have to wait until the summer to see what he wants to do. There’s every chance he’ll play on Saturday.

‘He’s a good trainer, a good lad and a good professional.

‘He’s a clever player.

‘He’s played at the top level and he’ll be playing in the European Championships in the summer for the Czech Republic’.

I have absolutely no doubt that Baros will start this weekend against Boro, and this is how it should be.

Should we go with the lone man, even though it would mean Jermain Defoe missing out, with the cup final in mind and Baros needing time on the pitch it would have to be done. To be honest even if we go with two up top as lethal as Defoe is, and as much as I really do believe we must still keep our eye on the league I think that Dave Nugent should then maybe even start alongside Baros for the same reasons.

Baros has been a willing runner for us, his effort, movement and ability to create space is fantastic, absolutely top class for me but his inability to score is a major, major concern. I have gone backwards and forwards on the ‘should we sign him’ thoughts but at this point in time I am leaning more towards no to be honest…

If he can score that first goal it may well open the floodgates, but at the moment he just does not look like scoring that first goal no matter how much time he has.

For work ethic and that ability to manoeuvre himself that space between defenders he would be well worth signing, but as this signing would probably set us back £6m or thereabouts it seems a bit of a ‘risk’ and a lot to pay for me, even though he has that proven quality.
