Waving farewell for good?

As I was so caught up in the whole ‘Linvoy is coming on’ moment when Linvoy Primus replaced Peter Crouch last night I did not actually realise just how much of a deal the big man made of his exit from the game.

Having spoken to some people since and just watched the game back on setanta sports myself, his reaction, where he gave prolonged applause and waved to all four corners of Fratton, literally waving not acknowledging, and he also appeared to mouth the words ‘thank you’ at one point, seemed like a player that was waving goodbye, and not just for another season but waving goodbye to the fans with a Pompey career ending again…

Crouch has never hidden his pleasure at ‘returning home’, but has more recently admitted his frustrations at how things have gone this season and how his role in the side has not actually helped his game and I think that he has accepted that he will have to move on again for the benefit of Pompey, and reducing our debts, and his own career – especially with England.

I was sad to see him leave the first time, after finally seeing him come back I would be gutted to see him leave again. Sadly, like with some many, I have almost become resigned to seeing this happen again. I hope I am wrong though!

Once again, as with him the first time round, people who did not appreciate what he offered soon will. Those sitting behind me that have said ‘you are crap Peter’ all season, as they did again last night, will realise just how ‘crap’ he is, they might also realise the true meaning of ‘you are crap’ next season…
