The one and only Peter Crouch.

Two-metre Peter got my vote; in all honesty there were not really many others that came that close to him so this was a fairly easy thing… Had he maybe arrived this summer, as others ‘might’, it might have been a different story?

To be fair the guy had a tough start and end to the season, the part in between was very good – then again that seems to be his way, goalscoring wise anyway. He will not score for ages then hits a purple patch before doing the same again although I firmly believe that the work-rate, effort and commitment always remains, and that is something that I have always loved.

That said I still firmly believe that both the beginnings and the ends to the season were better than he was often credited for as well.

Crouch needs someone to play alongside him and assuming he stays, which I would think he would now, I am certain we will either bring someone in to do this or select from what we have.

Lastly, I cannot let this pass without saying so, Crouchy, despite what plenty think, is not crap!

These are the thoughts that were shared about him in the forum poll voting…

powered_by_pies: ‘It’s a tough contest for me between Mullins and Basinas…. Joke!

I was torn between Belhadj and Crouch. Whilst Belhadj has raw talent and an unstoppable nature on the ball, and everyone knows he’s a favourite of mine, but at the moment he’s running a little too hot – I think he might have learnt a few naughty things from Herman Hreidarsson’s school of diplomatics!

In terms of cash=goals, and value for money, it’s got to be Croucinho. For a lone striker, he tried his best, even when at times he looked a little out of depth, he still mucked in and gave his all.’

hammersmithblue: ‘Pies, I am in the same position but I will plump for Belhadj cos although I totally respect the fact that PC works his nuts off every game and will defend him to my dying breath, it’s not as exciting to watch as Belhadj getting it right even if he doesn’t always get it right.’

pompeyrug: ‘Belhadj, had he been able to maintain his early season promise would have been a shoe-in for this – there is more to come from him, but it was not the time or the place for him for large parts of the end of this season.

Crouchy, no surprises I guess, gets my vote – I just love the guy, who loves the club, I just fear we are forcing him out, which leaves me really sad… was sad to see him go the first time but will be gutted this time round – assuming he goes – as he is such an asset when used right. even playing the lone role for us he ALWAYS gave his all but was too often got at by too many fans, who I will go as far as saying know nothing about football! if they did they would appreciate what he does do, sadly they never seem to notice the good things…’

pompeycarpet: ‘Belhadj is skilful, quick, and was much cheaper than crouch. but his attitude sometimes left a little to be desired.

Crouch is skilful, gangly (tall… good at heading…) and has a good attitude. but we had to sell Muntari to pay for him.’

Gandor1: ‘I just love Belhadj, but he does get himself into a lot of trouble. I wish I was his mum, I would sort him out. So my vote goes to Crouchie. Although I have never really appreciated his skill, I do see him ALL over the pitch. It is difficult to realise that he is our lone striker when he is in the enemies goalmouth defending until the last minute and then he has to hoof it up the pitch to be at our goal mouth to try for a goal. The man is a hero. Never complains and is a true professional. But I do love Belhadj……..’

Lemmi: ‘Voted for Crouchie for all the above reasons.’

tracyc: ‘Yes my vote’s Crouchie as well!

I love the idea of Gandor being Team Mum and sorting out all the naughty boys! I think young Nuge is a bit of a cheeky one as well!’

Chix: ‘What no Ben Sahar !

Well I’ve gone for Armand … He was made Belhadj tick earlier part of the season and I think we will see how good he really is in the next few seasons.. He has the makings of a world class left winger.

Crouch yeah works hard but allows himself to get drawn all over the place at times (remember him being caught in possession v.. erm. whoever it was) .. never the same once Defoe left.. albeit not his fault ..’

A decent number of votes in this one, so to see how this voting went click here.
