Time for Webber?

I do not think that it is a great secret that Chix and I think that Danny Webber has more to offer than many might think.

Ok, he might have been languishing in the championship in recent years and is not a ‘superstar name’, but for me – well us – he is the most natural goalscoring striker that we have at the club, and I feel sure that if we give him chances then he will tuck them away…

Aruna Dindane continues to get into the right positions, which is good, but he must have missed at least 4 or 5 good chances against Manyoo – most of them in the 1st half alone, and we cannot afford to keep missing these chances.

Webber has been given little cameo roles this season, and started most of the league cup games and has scored in 2 of these 3 games so far, although I am pretty sure we had not signed him when we played Hereford in the 2nd round, so he has actually played 2 league cup games and scored in both!

With Tommy Smith cup-tied tonight it is almost certain that Webber will get some time on the pitch, if it were me in charge I would start with Webber – hope to get some chances to him and see what he does.

‘If’ he did manage to score tonight then that would put him into contention for the Burnley game at the weekend, right?

We are crying out for a ‘proper’ striker, one that knows where the back of the net is, and I would say at the moment that most ‘clinical’ striker we have is not really getting much of a chance – so, lets give him a go tonight, and perhaps John Utaka as well alongside him for that matter.

Do not get me wrong I desperately DO want to win tonight, but I think that trying a few different things could also be the order of the evening…
