‘This is Martin Cranie’s year’, not my vote, yours – although these findings from race’s poll are thoughts that I kind of agree with…

I would agree that this year has to be the year for Cranie to come out of the shadows at Pompey or there will not be a year for him at the club, although I am not entirely sure that he has the capability of making a spot his own in the Pompey side?

The departure of Glen Johnson has left a massive spot that needs replacing – to be honest we are not going to be able to replace that void, merely fill it and whilst we have several candidates to do this Cranie is arguably the most recognisable right back that we have…problem I have is I am not certain of his ability to play a premier league season, right back or not!

That said, Stuart Pearce is no mug is he and knows a thing or two about being a full back, so if he rates Cranie enough to keep picking him for the England U21 side he must be doing something right eh? Although premier league football is a far cry from that at U21 level really isn’t it.

For me Cranie has to make the step-up to the 1st team next season for Pompey, if he does not I cannot see him having a long-term future at Fratton – but is this long-term as a right back or central defender, that I guess is the real question that needs answering…

  • What the poll asked – Is it a good time for Martin Cranie to step up to the first eleven given his England under 21 status?

  • How you voted – Yes, this is his year 75%, No he will not ever be a premier league regular 13%, Bring him on through the reserves for another season 8%, Farm him out for another year 4%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys…
