An article suggestion from JASON R. Something happening is what he wants, are you the same? Read on for more.

I don’t know about anyone else but I feel on a big comedown and slightly disappointed. The reason for this is that, after the good news and added optimism that the new owners brought in with them there seems to be nothing coming out of the club, or going in for that matter. All we are seeing and reading from the different news sources are snippets of things that are not really worth reading, and most things that we already know.

I understand that patience is needed but as each day goes by players, and good ones at that, are being snapped up by other clubs. I know that July 1st will probably see a lot of movement from most clubs as players contracts expire and officially players are free to sign on the dotted line.

Players aside we still don’t know the story and intentions that the new owners have, and a bit of news would be a good thing.

Fans have been patient so far but I don’t think it’s going to be long before the natives get restless. It is I agree a good thing in some respects that the club are not spouting that they are in for this player, or that player, but some hope and a bit of optimism wouldn’t go amiss surely that we are on the right track and the fans can start to get excited about firstly, the first day of training, secondly, the first friendly, and thirdly the first game of the new season.

So all I am asking and I am sure I speak for others is some hope and a bit more noise that the club are moving for players and also in the right direction. In this instance I wish that silence wasn’t golden.

  • questions the local sports news journos should be asking:

how many players does cotterill intend to bring into the club during the summer? 8? 10? 12? 14?

what are the priority areas for bringing players in e.g 2nd goalkeeper, right back, left back, pacy winger, central defender and 3 strikers. is there money available to sign strikers in particular?

how many strikers does cotterill intend to to sign 2 or 3?

how big is the shortlist or longlist of transfer targets? how actively are pompey targeting players?

have pompey been scouting the uefa european under 21 tournament?

  • Tbh Jason R, you are owed an explanation from the owners when you seriously fund the club; which your season ticket, a shirt and a few pies doesn’t even begin to do.. . As you said, you have to he patient; it is ludicrous to expect Pompey to just get players uncontested; that never happened when the club was spending unwisely ( but excitingly) in the premiership and it’s realistic to expect it to happen now. A strong dose of reality check is needed.

  • From the looks of things derby look to me to be mounting a promotion push for this coming season with all these new players coming in. I would argue they are taking the risk of speculating to accumulate, strange considering their past financial history. I think the club are probably playing their cards right at the moment and I believe come July 1st we will suddenly hear a lot more.

  • Totally disagree. I don’t see why we should panic buy to keep fans happy. CSI asked for time and patience so now the fans should respect that, wait and be happy once the players contracted elsewhere, that may already have done verbal agreements with Pompey, come through the doors in July. If Pompey muted these players, and we lost them to other clubs, would that be better business then?

  • I did say that to be honest midge about not spouting off to the world who we will sign.
Also a verbal agreement in football ? come off it mate players are driven by money and thats what talks in the game.
No one is saying about panic buying, put it another way, Cotterill said himself, his own words last season that he started the job just a bit too late, well whats the difference this season then ?
Well the obvious difference is that we dont even have half of what we had this time last year, so does that mean we will lose the first seven games again as he didnt sign players in time.?

  • I’m prepared to give this new regime some time and cut them some slack…….but I hear what people are saying and tend to agree……the silence is deafening but I will wait for just a little longer. However, Russell, If you are questioning what right a pompey supporter stumping up the circa £1000 (when you include my pie account) that the average season ticket holder will stump up (add up in a year what you will spend in tickets, kit, food, drink, programmes etc. and it will probably come to more) , to ask questions of HIS/HER club????? I question YOUR reality……If the owners actually stump up the equivalent Ratio (in wealth terms) of “THEIR OWN” money rather than leverage, then fair enough…….get off the backs of supporters and wake up !!!! Let CSI do their own talking

  • I would rather have a smaller squad of quality players than a large Sonko brigade. Varney looks to be on his way and as others have said, July 1st will bring more faces. Perhaps the new prospect of potential cash has changed SC’s plans a little. Derby do look to be building a strong team but don’t forget the trouble that a lot of ambition and an open cheque book got us into…

  • I think it is clear that much work is being done behind the scenes and I would expect to see a flurry of players being announced on Friday 01st July evening. Hopefullly between now and then CSI could at least give some assurance that players will be coming in and a hint as to what their short, medium and long term plans are.

  • Derby area big club with a sound infrastructure (stadium/training facilities etc) we do not – I just can’t see a player given the choice would chose us sadley

  • Don’t a lot of players’ contracts run until the end of June? We cannot officially talk about players under contract and there has been nothing about Norris on the OS yet.

  • I agree with Russell that it’s CSI’s business, not ours but a statement of intent would have been a sign of respect to the fans. However in our financial position it pays to keep quiet about negotiations and I’ve confidence that we’ll have a decent squad soon.

  • I have a letter from Roman Dubov saying that they will ‘be sitting down with manager and helping him strengthen the team’.

Stories now doing the rounds about Luke Varney, Jason Pearce etc. etc.. Things are moving but slowly sadly.

  • Russm is right. Chill out dudes. I think Jason you answered your own questions in the article: Nobody buys a club and expects to compete with 8 players on the books. Cotts isn’t sitting around waiting for everybody else to take their first pick of players. Patience. Would it really really help anything if somebody issued a statement that said “We’re trying really hard to buy players. Our intention is to get enough quantity to put a team out and enough quality to compete at the right end of the table.”? Those things should be pretty obvious and anybody delaying a season ticket purchase is looking for excuses to save their cash. I understand not everybody can afford a ticket, it is very very expensive in these times but it is a detriment to the club if the natives do get restless and stir up more bad publicity. Maybe those “fans” would be better off saving up for the next three years and then buying their ticket because that is going to be the realistic timeframe to get everything in place.
