Welcome to the Pompey Chimes – the definitive guide to the past week in the world of Pompey.

Club News

Milan Mandaric was the first person to open his mouth this week, as he threw in his two pence worth into the mix as he reckons Harry Redknapp should be reinstated as Pompey manager. Read his comments here.

The speculation surrounding the Portsmouth hot-seat continues this week as my favourite contender Slaven Bilic is approached for the Pompey job. Read all the details here, and don’t forget to add your opinion into the comments bit below the article.

Are you happy where you’re sat at Fratton Park week in week out? Perhaps you’re sat next to a big fat bloke who has the lurgy every week? Well it is too late now if you wanted to move. Click here for details.

So aside from our trip back out to Portugal, the club have confirmed other dates for the coming pre-season months. We are playing Havant & Waterlooville, Basingstoke and Eastleigh, and details of when these are can be found here.

Portsmouth City Council have confirmed that they will be applying to be a ‘host’ city when the World Cup returns to England in 2018. This therefore implies that a new stadium is on the horizon? Read more on this here and on the Official Site.

In order for us to get a new stadium, we’re going to need Dr SAF to invest heavily. There is some speculation that this will all fall through, however if you want reassurance that everything is going smoothly you can find it here.

Not really related to the club but a good read nonetheless – Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid this week for £80m, days after Kaka’s £59m move! For Rug’s take on that, which is well worth a read, click here.

Squad News

The speculation over the future or a particular player has developed at an alarming rate over the past few days. Firstly, Johnson categorically stated that ‘Portsmouth brought the love back’ and implied that he will be staying. You can read about that here. Secondly, The Mirror came out and said that Johnson would be moving away from Fratton, and you can see more about that here.

England games for Johnson came and went, and Johnson put in an absolutely phenomenal performance against Andorra in mid-week, earning Man of the Match along the way. You can read about his performance here.

I think Johnson was tapped up by his team-mates for England this week, as he has now spoken out in what is a Football Manager type press comment by saying he is ‘flattered’ by the attention from other clubs. Read about that and make your views known by clicking here.

Moving on to another defender who has been subject to speculation of a move to Anfield, and it has been made apparent that Aston Villa are willing to rival Liverpool for the Frenchman’s signature. Read about that here.

Players are also being linked to the club with moves to England, and one such player is Tranquillo Barnetta. Read about this news, here .

Vital Pompey News

First off, the FSF Fan’s Parliament is meeting in Newcastle in what actually sounds like a pretty fun-filled weekend. For more information click here.

A great article written by Midge, in which he (or she – not sure sorry!!!) gives us useful phrases to use to Dr SAF when he finally arrives in Portsmouth. Click here to enhance your language skills!

PompeyFCMad has also competed his own answers to add to the ‘Knowing Me Knowing You’ series. To get to know a bit more about him/her, please click here.

Also, there have been more contributions to the ‘Pompey Talk with….’ series, so don’t forget to check out Sneakay and Pedalo‘s answers by clicking their names.

Gino’s Fact of the Week

In the British all-time appearances for one club standings, the top and third placed players are Jimmy Dickinson and Alan Knight, with 828 and 801 appearances consecutively. Ryan Giggs is second, and has only just surpassed Knighty’s record in May this year.

Gino’s Teaser

Again, no takers for the Teaser which asked you to name the player who has received the most red cards for England, and how many – the answer is David Beckham, with two red cards.

This week’s question:

There are five players who have played for at least THREE clubs who have all won the European Cup (Champions League or equivalent) but have never actually won the trophy themselves. In case that’s not clear, an example is:

Ronaldo (Brazilian one): Has played for Barcelona, PSV, Inter/AC Milan and Real Madrid (all teams that have won the trophy) but he never actually won it himself.

Name the other four players!

See you next week folks!
