The King is happy to return?

None of the players offered new contract by the club have accepted them yet, in fact apart from Joel Ward, until now, none of these players have really even mentioned them.

To be fair they are ‘probably’ thinking over their futures, seeing what is happening with the club and taking a break. Some are also, of course, at the world cup.

Although, and in many ways perhaps the one that most would have least suspected would stay, Kanu – through his agent, quoted on givemefootball.com – here – has said that he would be prepared to stay loyal to the club: ‘Kanu has been offered a contract, which we are in receipt of and are negotiating.

‘Now we are looking at what progress can be made. We understand what the administrator is trying to achieve and Kanu is supportive.

‘He is focussed on the World Cup at the moment but I am dealing with contractual issues in the meantime.’

His agent went on to talk about what motivates him, and it is not money. Also saying that he has become ‘attached’ to the club.

So, if he likes what is on offer, regarding our future plans, then he is happy to sign up: ‘money has never driven Kanu – it is the love of the game. He has become very attached to the club so he is very open to proposals of how he can contribute further.

‘He has played at the highest level, but he is open-minded about playing in a lower division. If we can reach an agreement with the administrator he would be willing to stay on.

‘Providing the future looks good and the plans are solid, he will be interested in remaining at the club.’

As I say, I have to admit I am surprised to hear this, but this is not bad news is it really? Granted how influential the old man would be next season, if he stayed, remains to be seen but are we really in a position to be too picky over things?

Plus, he is The King after all and his presence at the club could be worth quite a lot to us in all honesty.

Whatever happens though I would not think that a final decision would be made until the week before the season kicks-off as Kanu does not do pre-season!
