The best is yet to come

Most of the time it is fairly easy to see why Hassan Yebda is contracted to Benfica and also why he has previously been ‘linked’ with both Arsenal and Liverpool as he has shown touches of class, and sometimes moments of brilliance.

If we are happy with what we are seeing now, according to the midfielder himself with what he has told The Pompey Site we have not seen nothing yet as the best is yet to come: ‘they haven’t seen the best of me yet – I will get better. Before I came here I had two months without playing, so I’m improving.

‘The Wolves game was my first start in the league. I scored and we won our first Premier League game of the season, so it was important for me and the team.’

Yebda is now ‘fulfilling a dream’ of playing in the premier league during his season long loan with us and wants to ensure he does all he can to help us stay here, and with ‘players we have like Kevin-Prince Boateng and Younes Kaboul we definitely have the quality to survive this season,’ being his thinking.

I have been impressed with the guy, not so much his ‘acting’ at times – his rolling around like he has been shot does annoy me, but if he can continue to improve this can only be a good thing for us, right?

Should he carry on like he is, or get better as he feels he will, then I would be quite happy for him to become a permanent signing in the New Year when the transfer window re-opens, although I am not too sure if we – maybe even he – would want to commit just yet?

What I think I would ensure beyond a doubt is that we have a definite first option on him next summer – assuming we can afford him, which I think we said we did as we have an ‘exclusive option to buy’…
