Dave Nugent has been told that a loan move to Ipswich is his decision after Harry Redknapp admitted as much – and not just with ‘quotes’ in the papers, these quotes also appear on the Pompey site.
It is said that Nugent is not being pressured into the loan but Redknapp now appears keen on the idea and the fact that ‘they would pay money to have David on loan’ seems to be the swaying factor.
Chances are he will agree to this, and although to be honest I would rather he stayed and fought for his place as he has all season, going out on loan if he is not going to get a look in might not be a bad thing – the only problem that I have is that as this is at a level he was trying to get away from you could not really gage any marked improvement in him as a player could you?
Hopefully ‘if’ he does go he will return in the summer and play his part next season. He is being written off but I still maintain that if he was given a run we would see the best of him and although I might be wrong and he ‘could be a flop’ I find it hard to believe that he is being considered as one just yet as he just simply has not played enough games in all fairness – remember the time that Benjani was given, and he had a hell of a lot more minutes on the field than Nugent – granted he ‘ran his heart out’, but in all fairness Nugent is not shirking the effort or commitment himself.
Should he go though I still feel we should insist on a 24 hours recall clause just in case we get left short, which Redknapp only the other day was saying we were – should he go and these thoughts that we are short of attacking options are expressed again then as much as we are Pompey fans will we have too much sympathy for his pleas?
If he goes I am going to try and look at this loan in a positive way, rather than a negative ‘this is the last we will see of him in a Pompey shirt’ way…
