Surely we won’t loan out Nugent?

I tried to fight this, as it was not something I wanted to cover as I am fed up with ‘rumour’ and ‘speculation’ surrounding Dave Nugent but the idea that he could leave us on loan just will not go away will it…

According to the Ipswich Evening Star it is being ‘said’ that Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has made a loan approach for Nugent for the rest of the season, and ‘apparently’ we are not ‘entirely opposed to the idea’: ‘Nugent is a possibility. We have asked about taking him on loan and Portsmouth have not ruled it out.

‘We are well aware if he did come he is not at 100% but he is making massive strides to get fit so we will wait and see what happens.

‘He loves Portman Road and he loves scoring goals here so it would be good to have him in a Blues shirt’.

I have made my thoughts on Nugent more than clear, so I am not going to go over these again.

However in light of Harry Redknapp only a day or so ago claiming he was still ‘light’ when it came to strikers how could he then justify letting him going out on loan?

The only possible benefits that I could see to this could be him rediscovering his goalscoring form, but even then how would this benefit him as this would be at a level that he was trying to get away from it will not be anything new to him, so will not prove anything new will it.

So the only reason I can see the sense in loaning him out is if it has been decided once and for all that he is not wanted here, so by loaning him out if he can start scoring again at least it will get him in the public eye and could see his value held, at the very least not drop too much? There is also the chance that if he does well for Ipswich they could be interested in signing him if they get promoted?

To be honest I do not want him to go – surprise, surprise – and think that if we do then we are virtually kissing our FA cup chances goodbye as injuries to Kanu, Milan Baros or John Utaka – even though he is not being viewed as a striker – would leave us with no one… unless we had a 24 hour recall clause inserted? And I am finding it hard to belief that will can see through the rest of the cup campaign with just 2 strikers…

Redknapp says he wants to keep him, but then he does not mention him when he talks about the strikers we have, if we genuinely are contemplating letting him go on loan then to me this would speak volumes about where his future does lie…
