Prepare for a summer of quality entrances to Fratton Park for next season guys, as Peter Storrie has ‘promised’ that at least three top class footballers will sign for Portsmouth Football Club!

Clearly some players will also leave, with Djimi Traore nailed on and Sean Davis and Pedro Mendes sadly looking as if they will go, with one or two ‘fringe’ players also looking surplus to requirement too, but ‘if’ players do leave then they will also be replaced.

Spurs defender Younes Kaboul, Rennes forward Jimmy Briand and the excellent Porto striker Lisandro Lopez are just some of the names being ‘linked’ but Peter Crouch and John Mensah are the ones that are most heavily, and most frequently been touted – I think myself that Mensah is a done deal and my thinking is that Crouch is not far off being cast iron too…

This is what Storrie did tell The News: ‘I think the squad is strong at the moment but I think of the current squad we are probably looking at bringing in another three.

‘One or two may want to go. That tends to happen when people are not in the team regularly, so obviously there could be more than that if others leave.

‘But we are looking at three and have already been working on a few – you’ll hear all about those in the summer. These are big names. We’re bringing in only quality players now.

‘We are a quality side, we are a top-10 side, so it’s only going to be quality people coming in.

‘It’s important we keep strengthening what is already an excellent squad so we can continue progressing. And that means bringing in even more quality players’.

This summer promises to be yet another exciting one for Pompey. Sure, we will be ‘linked’ to name after name and many will not come off but all the signs seem to be pointing positively towards some top class talent arriving to supplement what is already a fantastic squad.

My one hope is that we do not see wholesale changes, as the nucleus of the squad must stay in tacked and be built on, a mass exodus and rebuild will undo the good work started – building on the foundations already in place is the key, and in all honesty apart from moves to ‘the top 4’ clubs, moves for any of our top players to anyone else would merely be a sideways step…
