Storrie staying put

Peter Storrie has confirmed to The News that he is staying with Pompey as he wants to ‘keep working hard for this football club’ and he ‘doesn’t want to be anywhere else.’

The chief exec has spoken of all the support that he has received from fans, which helped him make up his mind to remain at Fratton.

I have to be honest here, and hear me out before jumping in, when all is said and done you cannot overlook the fact that he was a part of the lot that got us into the awful mess that we got into, he was helping spend the money that was spent and was also helping decide who got paid what – and what most have been getting paid has been wildly overdone, so this is mismanagement. Those at the top must have seen that what was coming in was nowhere near what was going out…

Although without his efforts, most certainly over the past few weeks and months, although more like the past 9-12-months on the whole who knows where we would have been?

‘Administration’ is a word that has surfaced several times, so is it too much of an overstatement to say this is where we would have been…

People will point to the money that he gets paid, and I must admit I too question why he gets paid so much for a club of our stature in relation to other much bigger ones, but I guess he gets paid so much – some say he is something like the 5th highest paid chief exec in the premier league? How true, I do not know – because he is so good at what he does, so it is probably better that he does that here than somewhere else.

Lessons would have been learned from previous mistakes I am sure and I would like to think that Storrie – despite as previously mentioned senior figures must have seen that what was coming in was not a great deal compared to what was going out – was only spending what he was under the impression Sacha had told him he had, right?

So, laying down a structure at the club, sorting our whole infrastructure is something that he knows as well as you or I, must be done so you can be assured that it is happening.

All in all it is a good thing that he is staying and we really must thank him for his efforts in recent times, it does not need thinking about what might have happened had he not been around to help, now lets see Pompey run in a fully professional way eh!

Benjani was an option and Notts County still hope to keep Ritchie…

Storrie also confirmed that a deadline move for Benjani was contemplated but his injury concerns meant this was shelved – during the deadline day mayhem this message might have been caught by some?

To be honest, as much as I love the guy, I think it was probably best that we did not re-sign him as I would say we have enough ‘Benji-type’ players and what we needed in a striker was one that would score us plenty of goals, and whilst he would have scored some I am not sure he was the answer.

Lets see what January brings…

Notts County have also revealed, although not a secret, how they wanted to sign Matty Ritchie on a permanent basis – and still hope to.

Although they say that it seems as though we are keen to keep him, so they settled for a short-term loan, they will true again to persuade us in January though I am sure!

So guys, thoughts below on all the above as always…
