Spurs the best of the fantastic 4?

‘The weekend cup win over Spurs was better winning the cup, beating Manyoo at Old Trafford and the draw with Milan at Fratton’, not my vote, yours – although these findings from tracyc’s poll are thoughts that I think I tend to, overall, agree with to be honest…

Winning the cup, even given the costs that it has come at, still ranks among one of the best days of my life – and winning the cup is up there with the greatest achievements you can achieve in football, especially for a club like us.

So, that was magical, it always was and always will be. Plus it is not everyday that you win the cup is it, even if we ‘could’ soon make it 2 cup wins from the last 3 tournaments!

As for beating Manyoo, at Old Trafford nonetheless on the way to winning the cup that was something special. Beating them at Fratton is something that we have regularly managed to do in recent years although beating them at Old Trafford is a rarity – to be honest ANYONE beating them on their own patch is rare really.

Ending more than 50-years without a win at their place was incredible – we were ‘lucky’ but the result is all that counts and that is a day that I am so happy to have been there for. I have not returned since, I have thought about it but as much as I love Pompey and love going to watch them whenever and wherever when it comes to Old Trafford in many ways I think why bother? It does not get any better than what was witness that day…right?

Milan at Fratton, well that is almost unheard of.

The chances of that ever happening again, let alone us being 2-0 up and then within seconds of beating them is probably as likely – as things currently stand at least – as me winning the lottery, and I do not do the lottery so that shows how much chance I have!

That nights atmosphere at Fratton is something that I do not think will be topped again – has there been a better?

Whilst the semi final was just that, a semi final so we have won nothing, given all that we have been through this season this has to be right up there with one of the best days, games and atmospheres that I have been involved in – and I have been to quite a lot of games over the years.

As much as that day at Wembley was about Portsmouth Football Club and not Harry Redknapp or the former Pompey personalities involved – and we proved this, lets face it the fact that we did do ’em added a little something to it didn’t it? Come on, you have to admit it…

Like I say after all the downs and downs of this season – there have not really been many ups! – to have made it to Wembley again, and seeing this come against ‘the mighty Spurs’ and for us to get through having played so well, with the atmosphere fantastic. To see the whole of one half of Wembley blue with Pompey fans loving the moment, with the Spurs fans flooding out was also special.

So, all in all, although they were all special, and in many ways for similar reasons, 3 of the 4 – for me – were special for some things more than others, Spurs was the ‘total package’ really as far as I was concerned.

Who it was again, where we were playing, what we had been through, what it meant happens to us – and it might mean another European tour yet, how special the atmosphere was, how well we conducted ourselves and how proud we showed we were of this club made it this total package for me and that is why this one got my vote…

  • What the poll asked – Which was better . . .?

  • How you voted – Winning the semi v Spurs 2010 79%
    Winning the cup 2008 15%
    The Milan Game 4%
    Quarter final 2008 Man U 0-1 Pompey 2%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys…
