Spineless Steve has announced what could turn out to be his final England squad for the friendly with Austria, then the final Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia – and it includes David James and Sol Campbell once again.

James and Campbell had both been in all his squads since their recalls after over a year in the cold, but despite such cries for James to be given the no.1 spot he has so far not managed it – surely his time will come now and he will start one, if not both games…

Campbell had not been able to make a playing return until last month when he played in both of the Euro 2008 games with Estonia and Russia – being absolutely fantastic against Russia – so he is a near certainty to start the Croatian game, with both Rio Ferdinand – suspension and John Terry – injury missing out, but I would expect him to sit out the friendly with Austria before this – as he cannot afford to miss the qualifier, assuming it is still relevant at that point?

Glen Johnson and Sean Davis will have to wait for another time for their recalls, although to be honest neither were realistically going to make it this time were they, well maybe Johnson could have?

David Beckham proved his fitness by coming through a ‘gruelling’ charity game in America last week, so he is back.

But most importantly of course the priceless commodities that are Wes Brown, Stewart Downing and Alan Smith are included – phew I worried for a minute this key trio would miss out…
