Sonko – credit where it is due

I, and to be fair many others – not that I am trying to just ‘cover myself’ – have not been entirely ‘convinced’ by Ibrahima Sonko since his arrival on a season long loan from Stoke.

In fact a lot would not have minded him going back!

Although I must say that he has started improving and built on last weeks ‘better’ performance against Hull with another ‘solid’ one against Forest, and of course showed the threat that he could be in the opposition box by opening the scoring with a bullet header.

Steve Cotterill felt that without him we might have crumbled: ‘Sonko was outstanding.

‘He’s come back into the team and played with the heart of a lion. We might have gone under without him.’

Whilst I am not going to get carried away and think that he is the ‘superman’ that he was sometimes named as, apparently, at Reading I do think that credit must be given where it is due.

And Sonko deserves credit for his performance against Forest.

His distribution is still woeful, then again I think everyone, including Sonko himself, know this – so making sure we play away from these weaknesses will help him, and of course us.

I am a big fan of Rocha John Rocha and thought he would ‘walk’ straight back into the side when fit, although perhaps this will not necessarily be the case…

That is certainly a GOOD thing if we can build up this level of competition for places, right?

I have to say we still look ‘suspect’ at the back, then again if we keep scoring more than we let in I will take that!
