Good lord, when will it end?
Of course our run will come to an end at some point, it has too, although it is not yet and the 2-1 win over Forest extended it to 7 unbeaten and 19pts from a possible 21.
Steve Cotterill was, like most of us, happy when the final whistle came as we were being battered in the end but a win is a win and he was ‘delighted’.
I worried that missed chances ‘might’ have cost us, but thankfully they did not, he said: ‘it was a tough game and we’re delighted with the result. Forest don’t get beaten often.
‘They played 4-5-1 and caused us problems. But at half-time we changed things around and put John Utaka through the middle with Dave Kitson while David Nugent went out wide. And we were a much bigger threat. It was a great team performance in the second half.
‘The best moment was the final whistle. They were putting balls into the box and the final 10 minutes we were hanging on.
‘But we’d had opportunities to kill the game off before that and we should have taken them.’
Cotterill said that he ‘couldn’t be happier at a club’ as we extended our unbeaten run, to also put our form to the best run it has been in 8-years – and that season we gained promotion to the premier league as champions in 2002/03!
We are up into 10th, although just 1pt off the play-offs now and that is his aim with a place in the top 6 the aspiration: ‘that win thrusts us right in there. We’re a point off the play-offs and proud of our run. We’re aiming for the top six.
‘It’s a good run, our best for eight seasons I’ve been told. It’s important to keep it up. Everyone here at Pompey is enjoying themselves and it’s about time.
‘The players have been magnificent and the fans are up for it. I couldn’t be happier at a club.’
Well, what can I say?
Yep, as said, we were battered at times in the final 10-15 minutes, a lot of which you could argue was our own fault as I felt we were dropping deeper and deeper when we should have pushed up a little more.
That said this allowed us to break, but I, and I would guess a lot of other people – and their hearts – would have preferred us to not to have invited quite as much pressure as we did…
At the end of the day we saw it out though, and got the job done! That is the main thing, bring on the Derby.
