Pompey swept aside Sheffield Wednesday with a confident showing at the Yorkshire club’s academy ground.

A powerful display from the Blues’ youngsters produced four goals in a match that they totally controlled from start to finish.

A brace by Mark Smith and a goal apiece from Matt Ritchie and Nadir Ciftci earned a first win of the season, after last week’s 1-1 draw against Leeds in the league opener.

SMITH scored his first ever goal at academy level after just 10 minutes when he was played through by Marlon Pack, who put in a tireless performance all game.

Pompey were already dominating and it came as no surprise when they doubled their advantage on 25 minutes. SMITH grabbed his and Pompey’s second after being set up by Ciftci.

But the hosts were thrown a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when Tom Hall pounced to halve the deficit.
