Ok, Harry Redknapp will obviously leave at some point as he cannot stay for forever but he has denied rumours that he could leave after the FA cup final, telling sky sports: ‘Never. Never ever. No, not at all.

‘What am I going to do with my time? What would I do with my life?

‘I love it. I enjoy coming to work here every day. The people I work with and for. The owner’s been brilliant. The players are great.

‘This is my life. This is what I enjoy doing. I look forward to coming here every day. I don’t know what I’d do without it.’

With Pompey becoming firmly established as a top 10 side, the thought was a possible cup win this could be viewed as his ‘crowing glory’ with us and he would not really be able to achieve much else – but he does not share these views as he believes there is still plenty of work that can and will be done: ‘I’ve built a team here. I’m proud of what we’re doing here.

‘Next year you want to be up in that top half again. Being in the top half of the Premier League in itself is a fantastic achievement for any club – apart from the top four.

‘We’ve done it the last two years and we want to be in the top half and as high as we can next year. There’s so much to look forward to. I wouldn’t be walking away from that.’

I must admit that these thoughts had crossed my mind – the thoughts that he may well decide to move on – but all being well this will not be the case, and this does appear to be the case.

He can infuriate me at times – but what manager would not? – but I do think that he is still the best man for the job and will continue to be the man to move us forward as we have been doing.
