Harry Redknapp has told The Sunday Mirror that he would like to manage the Great Britain side in the 2012 Olympics: ‘I’m absolutely flattered that my name is being mentioned about managing the Great Britain team

‘Would I take it if they offered it to me? Absolutely, I would be a fool not to.

‘I’ve had some great managerial jobs during my career but there is no doubt this would be the icing on the cake.

‘The fact it is being held on my old stamping ground in East London makes it even more appealing.’

Sir Alex Ferguson had been mentioned as a man to lead this GB side but he has ruled this out, although it is still questionable if this can even happen as the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish FA’s are against the idea anyway…

My thinking is the games are being held in Britain, football is the primary game of Britain so why not make an exception to the rules and allow a football team to be entered – and if this happens we could do a lot worse than have Redknapp manage it!

The main problem I can foresee though is how he could manage both Pompey and GB – assuming he is still here in 2012…
