Linvoy’s Pompey career over?

News at the end of last week that Linvoy Primus was returning to Charlton was a bolt from the blue, yet still Pompey say nothing, even if Charlton are…

Just as little ago as Thursday or Friday he was talking about his hopes of making his return shortly, with him pencilling in a reserve game with Fulham at the start of next month for his comeback with Pompey as he looked to step up his bid to play his first 1st team game for some 15-months or more, then just a couple of days later came the news that he was off on loan to Charlton, but he would be back though!

A couple of months to give him the 10-15 games that he was looking for would have been ideal but Charlton are claiming, and officially so, that this loan will begin this week and be for the remainder of the season… If so, with his contract up in the summer and unlikely to be renewed as a player for another season this would surely mean that we would not see him in a Pompey shirt again?

I know he has been written off before, and always comes back but if indeed it has been agreed that he will join his first club again for the rest of the season I would be surprised if he returned – at least as a player. If he decides to carry on as a player next season then it would not be here would it? If he calls time on his playing career – which maybe could be closer than we think as maybe he might not be able to fully recover from his knee injury? – then there is a good chance we have a position for him, at least we should!

The whole thing is such a surprise, and seems in total contrast to what he had been saying all saummer, especially what he was saying just days before talk of this deal surfaced. However knowing Primus as we do it would not surprise me at all if he had willingly agreed to this deal as he was looking to do what he felt was best for Pompey, and not just himself – as by going out on loan he would raise some funds, no matter how small, which his loaning out would bring.

I think it is about time that the Pompey Site had something to say on this matter now, as after all Primus has done for the club – on and off the field – we, and he at least deserve some official confirmation at our end as to what is going on to clarify things! But should he go then he will go with our very best wishes, but with much sadness too…
