…if they beat us of course!

Harry Redknapp has told The News that he would fully support Cardiff’s bid to get into the uefa cup next season should they beat us in the FA cup final: ‘If Cardiff beat us, I will support them 100 million per cent in their bid for European football.

‘I’d be first in the queue. If they win the FA Cup, they should be in Europe – what’s wrong with that?

‘Cardiff have been in the English League for 80-odd years. If they beat us, I will shake Dave Jones’ hand and wish them the very best – they would have deserved the prize of European football and the very best to them.

‘Why it’s a question in the first place beats me. What is the point of them entering in the first place, then?’

Technically, as Cardiff are part of the Football Association of Wales with the way rules currently stand they would not be able to represent the English Football Association in the uefa cup next season – so the early thoughts were we were quids in either way… Since then Michel Platini has sided with Cardiff and plans to give them a helping hand ‘should’ they beat us.

I know ‘rules are rules’ but these are always bent to suit others, so when all is said an done Redknapp is right really if they win let them in as teams like Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham have been playing in the English league for donkies years, so why not give then the place ‘if’ they beat us?

At the end of the day we can eliminate any ‘contentious decisions’ by simply finishing the job we have started and win the FA cup as we plan – as often said I am not expecting this as a given but will we ever get a better chance…
