Pompey’s injuries starting to ease…

Pompey have been handed a welcome boost, well better news I guess, with the news that Gary Sadler has shared on pfcTV on the news that several Pompey stars, and potentially key players in our survival bid, are stepping up the returns from injuries…

Niko Kranjcar is out running again and should results of a recent scan come back with positive news then he will be close to returning to training – thought is that he ‘could’ be ready to return in time for the Citeh game on Saturday week?

A knee injury was expected to keep Papa Bouba Diop out for the best part of the season, but the ‘big man’ is said to be working hard in the gym and making very good progress in his recovery, being in very high spirits. He ‘could’ start running in a week or so, should he receive positive news from a meeting with a consultant next week.

Richard Hughes, who clearly came back too soon from his last injury, is a couple weeks away from returning from his hamstring injury – if he cannot return in time for Stoke then the break after that, due to the Manyoo game being called of as they are in the league cup final, should give him that extra time to ensure he is ready to return for the game after, which I believe is Chelski?

He burst onto the scene back along, but then Marc Wilson suddenly went missing – to be honest I did not even know about the injury he had picked up, but his hip problem is nearing full recovery, and he too is working outside again and ‘should’ return to training next week.

Armand Traore had to leave training yesterday with a groin strain, so he will now be assessed – thankfully we have Nadir Belhadj back from suspension for Liverpool, and hopefully this time out of the side has enabled him to ‘cool off’ as his temperament has been very suspect recently, and he is lucky to have only been sent off once. His form has also been shaky to be honest, but then again there are not many that can say anything other than this…

Injuries have kept Younes Kaboul out for several months, with fleeting returns during this time. At the weekend he came off with an ankle problem, although I am sure he was happy to come off after the defensive horror show he and others gave! Treatment is seeing the ankle settle but there was no news on his availability for the weekend, although the thought is he is struggling.

He might not feature much, and many might have forgotten him but Jamie Ashdown is recovering well from his back injury. He is another working hard in the gym, in a couple of weeks he will be seeing a consultant to see what the next steps are.

There is also news coming through today that Sol Campbell should be fit to return against Liverpool at the weekend. ‘If’ he does return we desperately need to see him have one of his top games, something that we do keep seeing every now and again! Sod trying to play a high offside line, lets just defend and defend for our lives – with help from the midfield, which to be fair has been getting better in recent weeks and with further additions should help even more. No one but the defence was to blame for the weekend mauling at Fulham…

We got some players in, and with players returning hopefully we will soon have a selection headache – of a good kind!
