It is now official; the proposed pre-season friendly with Real Betis has been cancelled.

The following was issued on The Pompey Site a couple of hours back…

Real Betis Match Cancelled

Pompey’s pre-season match against Real Betis on Saturday has been cancelled.

It comes as the first-team squad were forced to extend their stay in America after their flight was grounded – a catering truck collided with their US Airways plane forcing the flight to be cancelled.

As a result, almost all of the squad and it’s coaching staff will not arrive back in Britain until Sunday.

After lengthy discussions, the difficult decision to call the match off was made in conjunction with Real Betis.

Chief executive David Lampitt said: “Unfortunately events outside of our control have conspired against us and we have been left with no choice but to cancel this match.

“We are naturally disappointed as we were looking forward to welcoming Real Betis, their fans and directors to Fratton Park and we thank them for their patience and understanding.”

Supporters who have purchased tickets for this match will be refunded.

To claim their refund, supporters can visit the ticket office in Frogmore Road which will be open tomorrow (July 30) from 2pm until 6.30pm.

Alternatively they can contact the club via telephone (0844 847 1898, option 6) or by post (Ticket Office, Portsmouth Football Club, Frogmore Road, Portsmouth, PO4 8RA), enclosing their ticket and payment details.

If you do not wish to send your details by post, please enclose a contact telephone number and someone will call you to arrange your refund.

Supporters who contact the club by telephone are asked to be aware that there are limited phone lines and, as such, there may be delays.

Refunds can also be used to offset the cost price of future tickets for any home game at Fratton Park up to and including the match against Peterborough on September 27. This is also the last date for claiming refunds for Real Betis tickets.

Portsmouth Football Club would like to apologise to all supporters for any inconvenience that this unforeseen circumstance has caused.

Pompey’s academy match against Winchester City tonight will still go ahead as planned.
