Pompey talk with tracyc

We can now see what tracyc had to say when asked a few questions about Pompey, the season just gone and the one ahead along with the ‘possible’ future ahead.

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the ‘knowing me knowing you series’ – which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email – and we had the ‘talking Pompey with’ series last summer, this now returns under a new name and some fresh questions as ‘Pompey talk with’…

tracyc was asked 6 questions about the 2008/09 season and what the hopes are for the 2009/10, one and indeed our future, is.

This is what they said…

  • So, sum up the 2008/09 season in 3 words?
    Roller-coaster ride.

  • Suddenly things seem ‘a lot brighter’ for Pompey with Dr SAF taking over – what are your hopes/aspirations under the new ownership? Assuming everything goes through!
Whew! I’m still reeling from Dr SAF’s arrival on the scene, and really really hoping that it all goes through, with this nagging worry in my mind that ‘anything that appears to good to be true, usually is’. But it all looks for real, and it is totally amazing. Of course we don’t know how much money Pompey will have to play with do we?

I hope for a top-notch manager, Bilic would be good choice, but he’s far from the only possibility. I don’t think we should get too carried away though. I like the idea that FP will be redeveloped with a longer term plan to build a brand new stadium, although 50,000 would be too big, we don’t want to be like Monaco with a massive half-empty stadium, that would kill the Pompey spirit. But we can look forward to building for the future.

I suppose we should be aiming at becoming a champions league side really, but I can’t get my head round that. I’d like to see us there or thereabouts for the Europa league every year though, and more cups! More cups would be nice. And I would really like to have our club taken seriously in the football world and have the media stop trying to grind us down all the time. Or is that really pie in the sky?

  • Which players – that we could realistically sign – would you like to see arrive this summer?
Hmm . . bit unsure on this. Darren Bent perhaps (he does a good impression of Jamie’s Mum apparently) Obafemi Martins. Benjani. But I’m sure there’s lots out there that I haven’t thought about.

  • If you had to select 1 player to ‘sell’ or ‘release’ this summer who would it be and why?
Mullins. Do I have to say why?

  • What are you hoping for from Pompey in the 2009/10 season?
More stability. No relegation scrap. A good cup run and top 8 finish, preferably qualify for the Europa league. Oh and let’s beat Chelski. Just for once! Pleeeeeze!

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make during that season?
Well I’m now a season ticket holder, so all the home league games, plus around 4-6 away, and then it depends who we draw/how well we do in the cups. I want to go to Villa, I went there in 92 for the FA cup semi-final against Liverpool, but I’ve never seen Villa play there! Other away matches possibly in the frame are Everton, West Ham and Wolves.

Thanks to tracyc for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!
