Pompey have just issued the following statement on the Official site
“After discussions with Sol Campbell, Portsmouth Football Club will be making an official complaint to the Football Association concerning the verbal abuse aimed at him during last Sunday`s match against Tottenham.
Both Sol and the club feel no player should be subjected to personal abuse of this nature and that it has no place in football.
The club will be urging the FA to look into this as a matter of urgency and will co-operate fully in any investigations that take place either by the FA or by Hampshire Police who are also conducting their own investigation.”

I feel they had no choice in making the decision after all the publicity surrounding the affair. The press and numerous internet sites have printed the words of the ‘songs’ that were sung and various anti racial and other pressure groups have become involved. In fact it has rather over-shadowed the whole week with Harry being quizzed on the subject rather than last night’s trip to Portugal.

What sanctions could the FA invoke against Spurs for failing to control their fans? Having talked to club officials they believe that other than a fine it could involve a reduction in ticket allocation to away games.

Your views are always are awaited.
